In a highly competitive selection process for the architectural design of the Cua Luc 1 and Cua Luc 3 bridges – two pivotal infrastructure projects in Quang Ninh province – A2Z distinguished itself by securing the top honors, surpassing numerous prominent competitors. Several of its design proposals not only received accolades but were also selected for implementation, signifying their crucial role in shaping the evolving urban transportation landscape along the coast.
A2Z Takes the Lead in the Cua Luc Bay Overpass Design Competition
In 2020, the Quang Ninh Provincial Board of Investment and Construction Management for Civil and Industrial Works organized a competition to solicit architectural design proposals for the Cua Luc 1 and Cua Luc 3 bridges. These two bridges hold strategic significance in connecting Ha Long City with Hoanh Bo district across Cua Luc Bay, thereby fostering development in the western part of the city and the broader surrounding region.
The competition garnered participation from 14 design proposals submitted by leading research institutes, companies, and architects specializing in transportation infrastructure within Vietnam. The judging panel, comprising esteemed experts from the Vietnam Association of Architects, the Quang Ninh Association of Architects, and the Quang Ninh Department of Construction, meticulously reviewed, evaluated, and ultimately selected the most outstanding proposals for investment consideration.
Distinguished by their ingenuity, strong symbolic character, and high degree of feasibility, A2Z achieved remarkable success by winning the most significant awards in the competition, including both design proposals chosen for actual construction.
Signature Designs of A2Z: From Concept to Reality:
1st Place – “Wings Over the Sea” Design (Cua Luc 1 Bridge)
Inspired by the image of wings soaring across the sea and sky of Ha Long, “Wings Over the Sea” proposal from A2Z was selected as the official design for the construction by the judge.s The Cua Luc 1 Bridge project has a total length of 4,265 meters and a total investment of over 2,100 billion VND. Upon completion, the bridge was named “Love Bridge” by the Prime Minister, becoming a new symbol attracting a large number of residents and tourists for sightseeing and check-ins.

1st Place – The “Dawn” proposal design (Cua Luc 3 Bridge)
The “Dawn” design emulates the image of the sun rising from the sea, evoking the serene and majestic beauty of the bay area. This is the winning proposal for the architectural design, and the chosen design for the construction of the Cua Luc 3 Bridge by A2Z. The project spans 2.6 kilometers in length and a total investment of approximately 1,742 billion VND. The bridge is now operational, facilitating transportation for residents in the surrounding area and fostering the development of urban areas in Ha Long City.

3rd Place – “Sail” Design
Another proposal that strongly reflects the distinctive style is the “Sail” design from A2Z, which won third prize in the competition. Although the proposal was not selected for construction, this design further affirms creative capabilities and architectural vision of A2Z in incorporating local identity into transportation infrastructure projects.

Design Quality Coupled with Construction Efficiency
Both bridges were designed with 6 lanes for motorized vehicles, ensuring a navigational clearance of 40 meters and a maximum design speed of 60 km/h. The projects comprehensively include associated technical components such as intersections, sidewalks, greenery, lighting and artistic illumination, and traffic safety systems, with a total investment of over 3,852 billion VND.
The projects designed by A2Z had achieved the aesthetic, technical, and economic criteria and fully operation, creating a modern and sustainable transportation system that contributes to the socio-economic development of Ha Long City in particular, and Quang Ninh province in general.
