A2Z surveyed the development of riverside urban infrastructure in China

During a business trip to China from June 1st – June 4th, 2025, A2Z JSC joined a survey delegation with Deo Ca Group and Van Phu Group to study riverside urban infrastructure development models in major cities such as Chongqing and Guangzhou.

Objectives of the Survey Trip

In collaboration with two major Vietnamese corporations – Deo Ca Group and Van Phu Group – aims to conduct in-depth research to realize the Red River Riverside Boulevard and Landscape Project in Hanoi. The survey in Chongqing and Guangzhou seeks to gain practical experience in riverside planning, flood control, integrated transport development, and public spaces – all crucial elements for application in this large-scale project in Vietnam.

Chongqing – A Typical Riverside Urbanization Model in China

In Chongqing City – the only municipality directly under the central government in Western China – the delegation surveyed the integrated infrastructure system with riverine landscapes, including riverside roads, overpasses, monorail, and parks along the Yangtze River and Jialing River.

A2Z, along with other delegation members, worked with design institutes, infrastructure development units, and urban planning agencies there, focusing on:

  • Application of smart traffic models
  • Planning of riverside green spaces
  • Urban management and flood regulation
  • Digital transformation in infrastructure design & operation

Also, during the program, the delegation visited the Chongqing City Planning Exhibition Hall, which showcases the master planning vision through dioramas, digital maps, and 3D models comprehensively simulating the urban space – from commercial centers and industrial parks to transportation systems and public facilities.

Hanoi – Chongqing: Strategic Similarities in Riverside Development

Based on the meetings and actual surveys, the parties recognized that both Chongqing and Hanoi are major cities connected to large rivers – the Yangtze and Red River, respectively. They share many similarities in terrain, infrastructure pressure, and the need to develop multi-layered urban spaces along their riversides.

This survey holds special significance as A2Z, along with its partners, is researching several transport projects and the development of a Red River riverside boulevard in Hanoi. The experiences gained from Chongqing regarding integrated planning – transport – water treatment, and flood control are valuable practical lessons for the upcoming consulting and design processes of A2Z.

Mr. Mai Manh Hong, Chairman of The Board of Directors of A2Z, highly praised China’s strategic planning approach to riverside development. Its collaboration with Deo Ca Group and Van Phu Group on this trip is a strategic step to embrace integrated design trends, promote the application of BIM, digital technology, and foster international cooperation in large-scale projects in Vietnam.

Mr. Mai Manh Hong stated: “Chongqing’s experience in integrated planning, flood management, and smart transportation infrastructure offers practical value for Vietnam. A2Z will enhance the application of BIM, digital transformation, and international cooperation in designing upcoming projects.”
